What Is Boulder’s Elite Sports Nutrition?
Boulder's Elite Sports Nutrition Is Performance Nutrition for All
Since opening its doors in 2013, Boulder's Elite Sports Nutrition has been the premiere source of performance nutrition advice in the Boulder Valley, helping athletes of all types from amateurs and weekend warriors to dedicated professionals. Whether your goal is to gain strength or lose weight, we're here to help. At Boulder's Elite Sports Nutrition, we work with you and your individual needs to design a nutrition plan that will take you further than just training alone.
And now, you don't even need to be in the Boulder area to maximize your athletic potential—wherever you are, we can meet you either online or on the phone! This is perfect for time-crunched or traveling athletes, as you can meet and discuss your diet plan with Boulder's Elite Sports Nutrition from anywhere in the world.
How Does It Work?
When you work with Boulder's Elite Sports Nutrition, you begin by selecting a package that best suits your current goal. If you have multiple goals and are unsure where you should begin, we're happy to discuss your goals to help you decide.
After choosing a package, you give us all the details we need to customize your dietary plan—your training schedule, information about your current diet, and relevant health information. Then we go to work building a diet and supplement plan to perfectly match your goal.
In the meantime, you'll schedule an appointment to speak with Brian Rigby, MS, CISSN about your plan. This initial consult lasts 30 minutes, and our goal is to ensure you're 100% clear on what you should be doing. Afterwards, you get started on your plan and we agree on a time to meet again for a follow-up consult (15-30 minutes depending on your need) in a few weeks after you've had an opportunity to see what's working great and what might need some tweaking. If something isn't working, we're committed to making sure it begins to!
Overall, what Boulder's Elite Sports Nutrition offers is the opportunity for you to sync your diet with your training and goals. Our fluid diet plans make it easy for you to succeed without creating failure-inducing rigidity. Your success is paramount to us—it's the whole reason we do what we do! We hope to meet with you soon.

Get Strong
How much time do you spend training? How much effort do you put into getting stronger, faster, and better? How much money do you spend on the best trainers and coaches to help you reach those goals? Most athletes are serious when it comes to training the right way, but then fail to account for how much of a difference good sports nutrition can make. When you don't fuel your body properly, you only get a fraction of what you could get from your training. You wouldn't try to run a McLaren sports car on 85 octane—even if it runs okay for awhile, it's never going to hit its peak potential, and eventually it's going to break down. You don't want to run your high-performance body on an economy diet, either.
The "Get Strong" package from Boulder's Elite Sports Nutrition is your solution. This package has your training in mind, and is designed both to maximize your ability to train as well as the gains you make from that training. In the process, it also helps you prevents common athletic ailments like illness, injury, and overtraining so that nothing holds you back.
What to Expect
The first step when you purchase the "Get Strong" package is to fill out an intake form that will give us most of the details we need to create diet plan customized to your sport and schedule. You also have the option of filling out some food diaries so we can assess what your diet is currently like and what areas will need to change the most. Once we have this information, we create your custom plan and send it to you.The next step is to meet with us either online via VSee (a free, encrypted video conference program) or over the phone for a 30-minute consult. The main purpose of this consult is to ensure you fully understand what the plan consists of and answer any questions you might have. Our goal is for you to walk away confident in what you need to do nutritionally, both in terms of diet and supplements.
After the first consult, you'll follow the plan for a few weeks before we meet again to review how it's working for you. We'll interview you to see what's working as intended and what we might need to change up to help you perform even better. Once everything is perfect, we'll send over a finalized plan that you can stick to for as long as your training phase lasts.
While you can follow our plan for as long or short an amount of time as you need, we'll be available via email for another month to continue answering any new questions or concerns that arise. If you have concerns you don't think can be addressed over email, we can schedule another 30-minute online or phone consult for a discounted price ($50).

Get Lean
There are many reasons why an athlete might want to lose weight. Perhaps you're hoping to get as light as possible before going all-out in a strength-gain phase. Maybe you've struggled with it for awhile and are worried about your health. Maybe you just want to look good at the gym.No matter what your reason is, Boulder's Elite Sports Nutrition can help. Athletes have different requirements from a weight-loss program than non-athletes. To begin with, most athletes expect to continue to be able to train while dieting, which is not always possible on conventional diets. Athletes have also invested a lot into building their body and many diets can wreak havoc on all that hard work. The last thing an athlete wants is to lose strength, power, or endurance along with the weight, but that happens all-to-often when their diet is not approached carefully.
The "Get Lean" package addresses these issues and more. It tackles weight loss from the perspective of a performance-minded athlete who wants to lose fat, not muscle. Losing weight is never fun, but we do our best to ensure it's a fast and pain-free as possible while also allowing you to maintain your strength and most of your ability to train hard.
What to Expect
With the "Get Lean" package, the first thing you do is fill out a detailed intake form so we can understand all the relevant details. You also have the option of filling out a few food diaries so we can get a better idea of what your current diet looks like and where we might expect some challenges. Based on all this information, we create a custom diet plan and send it to you.Next, you'll meet with us either online via VSee (a free, encrypted video call program) or over the phone for a 30-minute consult to review the plan. We'll answer any questions you might have and do everything we can to ensure you're walking away confident in what you need to do. We'll also discuss your ultimate goal and decide how long it might be appropriate to follow our fat loss plan.
After you've followed the plan for a couple weeks, we'll meet for a follow-up consult (15 to 30 minutes) to review how the plan is going and make any necessary changes. The goal is to fix anything that isn't working so that we can create the perfect plan for you.
Finally, depending on how long we've agreed the diet plan should last, we'll meet for a final consult to help you shift back to a normal diet. One of the worst problems with losing weight is fighting the rebound effect, where many wind up regaining weight they lost. We help you prevent this by transitioning you off the diet, ensuring all your hard work isn't for naught.
When you sign up for the "Get Lean" package, we'll be right by your side for the entirety of your weight loss program. Even after the final consult, we will be available via email for another month to answer any questions or concerns that come up—and if you feel you need more support than an email can provide, we provide discounted ($50) online and phone consults to help you succeed.
What You'll Get
With the "Get Lean" package, you will...- Lose fat, not muscle.
- Maintain strength.
- Continue to be able to train hard.
- Reduce the discomfort from hunger.
It doesn't matter why you want to lose weight—Boulder's Elite Sports Nutrition will help you with your goal, and we'll help you do it right.

Frequently Asked Questions
There are a number of reasons why Boulder’s Elite Sports Nutrition offers teleconsults instead of in-person consults, but they mostly boil down to client convenience. Athletes usually have busy lives; on top of regular work and social activities, they fit in multiple-hour workouts most days of the week—then add the hectic travel schedule that many professional and semi-professional athletes must adhere to on top of it all. The end result is that it can be hard to find the time or motivation to see a sports nutritionist in-office, and so the task falls under the radar.
By offering consults over the phone or internet, many of those hurdles are eliminated. Additionally, because we don’t need to adhere to normal office hours, we can offer much greater flexibility as to when we meet you, whether in the evening, weekend, or another time that fully meets your scheduling needs. In other words, we’ll work with you to make sure meeting with us is as easy and convenient as possible!
Finally, there is growing evidence that nutrition consulting is more effective over the internet or phone than it is in-person. When you meet us long-distance, you get to stay in the comfort of your home—it’s your own environment, you’re in control, and you will likely feel more comfortable discussing a topic as personal as nutrition. The more comfortable you are, the more likely you are to ask questions and engage with us at the level needed to get the results you’re looking for. So from an efficacy standpoint, we think online consulting is a win as well.
Depending on the circumstances, yes. If you really don’t think you’d feel comfortable speaking online or over the phone, or if you don’t have the capability, we’re happy to discuss the possibility of an in-person consult. Use the contact form below (click “Have a Question We Didn’t Answer? Email Us!”) to write us a message and we’ll see if we can make the arrangement.
Meal plans always seem like a great idea at first, but ultimately they have a number of fundamental flaws that limit their utility for athletes. First, meal plans are restrictive—they are set plans that allow little-to-no room for individual preference, sporadic schedules, or spontaneity. Second, meal plans are limited because they are time-consuming to create, meaning we could only provide at most a few and not a detailed plan for every day you’re with us. Finally, athletes typically have better-than-average diets to begin with and need less explicit instruction in order to adhere to recommended dietary changes; this contrasts with medical nutrition therapy patients, who often come from a background of not knowing how to prepare a healthy meal in the first place, and who will need instruction in the form of meal plans.
In the end, our diet plans offer you flexibility that is simply impossible with meal plans. And, if you do need help choosing the right foods, don’t worry—that’s a part of all packages and we’ll always do our best to ensure you’re choosing the right foods for your goals.
Yes, we specialize in climbing nutrition and are particularly well-versed in helping rock climbers of all disciplines attain their goals and boost performance with nutrition. That being said, we are equipped to help athletes from all sports and backgrounds, whether they are power athletes like climbers (gymnasts, weight lifters, MMA fighters), endurance athletes (runners, cyclists, triathletes), or somewhere in-between (soccer, basketball, football).
Since everybody has to eat, and since most athletes already have reasonably good diets, it can be difficult to understand where the value lies in paying someone to help you with sports nutrition. Consider, however, that all athletes also have reasonable ability to train themselves and coach themselves, yet benefit greatly from expert insight in these fields. It’s the same with nutrition— yes, you can figure it all out yourself and probably do okay, but you stand to benefit that much more from professional help.
The other thing to keep in mind is that sports nutritionists are only consulted occassionally, such as when training goals change. This is opposed to coaches and trainers who must been seen frequently in order to derive maximum benefit. As a result, the upfront cost for nutrition consulting is typically much higher because our services cover a longer span of time than those of trainers or coaches. During this span of time—even when you’re not meeting with us—we will provide continuous support over email to help you resolve any nutrition-related issues.
If you are planning on meeting with us online, you will need to download VSee—a program that functions essentially the same as Skype, but is HIPAA-compliant. It’s free and available for all major platforms (Windows & Mac PCs, Apple & Android mobile devices).
You can also start tracking your food, specifically by recording a diet diary for three types of days: a normal training day, a normal rest day, and a normal weekend day (provided you work during the week, and also train during the week). There are many diet tracking apps out there, but most of our clients have found MyFitnessPal to have the most robust food database and be the easiest to use. That being said, use whatever food tracker works best for you—as long as you can share the data with us (for example by printing to PDF), we can work with it.
